Professor Sobe is the co-editor of the journal , which is affiliated with the Comparative Education Society of Europe (CESE), and he currently serves on the editorial board of .

On the faculty at Loyola University Chicago since Fall 2004, Professor Sobe teaches regularly in the and has held numerous faculty leadership positions at Loyola.  His community service activities include serving on the board of directors of and .

Professor Sobe has worked as a teacher at the middle school level, teaching in Poland 1994-1995 and in New York City 1996-1999.  An interest in East/Central and Southeastern Europe has led to his involvement in educational development projects in Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Serbia/Montenegro.  This has also led in many ways to an interest in the international circulation of educational policies and practices. Professor Sobe's dissertation research examined Yugoslav student and teacher travel in the 1920s and 1930s based on archival research conducted in Belgrade, Serbia-Montenegro.

Professor Sobe was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the (2012-2015). And, he is also serving a term (2012-2015) on the Executice Committee of the . He is the international convenor of the New Times for Curriculum thematic group at the , which will take plaec in Buenos Aires, Argentina in June 2013.

Professor Sobe is a historian of education also active in the field of comparative and international education.  He teaches a range of courses in Loyola's Cultural and Educational Policy Studies program.  He serves as Director of Loyola's and blogs at .  Professor Sobe is the Program Director of Loyola's and also co-directs the School of Education's program.  He is an active member of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), the Comparative Education Society of Europe (CESE), the History of Education Society (HES), the International Standing Conference on the History of Education (ISCHE), the World Council of Comparative Education Societies (WCCES), as well as , Chicagoland Researchers and Advocates for Transformative Education.
